FTP as dialogue takes ages to open

Hi there,
On my Windows 7 64bit laptop running Photo Mechanic 5 (currently on build 13857) I regularly find the FTP window takes several minutes to open. Everything else runs as fast as ever but when I select the images to file and then right click and select "FTP as", PM freezes up for up to several minutes before the FTP dialogue opens.
Any ideas?

No, not at all.  Please get the latest build either from the Announcements section of the forums (or via the Software Update mechanism in Photo Mechanic.)  If the problem still persists, please let me know.

I don't expect the latest build to make any difference, but if I end up troubleshooting with you and making new builds, we'll be working together on the latest code and not something from a month or two ago.

OK, yes it's still doing it with the latest version. It's most apparent when I use my mobile broadband connection (tethered to my mobile) for the first time in a session. If I need to FTP several times in a session then the 2nd time onwards all seem fine.
Does the FTP as dialogue carry out some sort of connectivity/IP check upon loading?

The entire Uploader initializes DNS services one time, no matter which Upload template is in use.  We have a system here that consistently gets a 10 second delay that we're investigating.

We understand that it is taking several minutes for the Uploader dialog to appear for you.  Since we have a system that is easily accessible and very reproducible, we'll work towards a solution on this system and get you a build to test with once we have solved it on our system.

Joel,

It is likely that you have some stale registry keys on your system that are tripping up the DNS system when you change your DHCP host.

The above page should resolve your problem.  Please let us know if it doesn't or if you are having trouble following Microsoft's instructions.

I know this behavior also on my Mac System.
There are some times it takes about a minute until die ftp as dialgue opens.
The beachball is rolling an pm hangs.

I dont think its a Windows based problem only.

OK, well the next time it happens to you, please run the Activity Monitor and sample Photo Mechanic.  Send us the file that is produced.

Thanks for the reply - the Microsoft support page you've linked to is specifically for Windows NT, not Windows 7.
Before I start making changes to my registry, are you certain this will be OK on my OS?

To my knowledge, Microsoft has never addressed the underlying issue.  The second workaround (importing the registry key file) will either correct the problem (stale DNS info) or it will at least be benign.
