Photo compression in Photo Mechanic

Is their a compression field within Photomechanic that I can change?

Hi,
You can use the option "Save As" in the File menu of PM to process the image and limit file size or resize the picture.

Long story short, my editor states that my files are too small as they 7 MB uncompressed.  He thinks my settings in my camera or Photomechanic need to be changed.  My work flow consists of:  take photos with Canon 1D Mark III in RAW, Ingest Raw files to Photomechanic, add caption, rename file, open RAW photo in Photoshop and edit.  Once I edit photo, I save it as a jpeg file.  At this point my files are close to 2 MB.  I then FTP to files using Cyberduck.

Photoshop is making the final conversion to jpeg.  The editor is looking for 2MB files, which they are when I FTP the files to them.

Photoshop should show you the expected file size when you change the quality.  Just dial it in to the quality that produces the file size you need.

And what file size do you get once the file is actually saved?  What file size do the images have once the editor receives them?

I'm confused, he thinks the files are too small, but he wants them at only 2 MB? Does he think they are compressed too much so he wants them bigger, or did you mean he thinks they are too big because they are going over 2 MB?

What do they open the images with?  It sounds like they're scaling them according to the DPI saved in your JPEG.  Post one of your images here (it doesn't have to be a 'real' image, it just needs to go through your workflow) so I can take a look at it.

7MB is fairly small for an uncompressed image. (2.2 megapixels)  What are the pixel dimensions of your saved JPEGs?

That is indeed a 2 megapixel image.  It is only 1296x1944.

How big is the original image with no crop applied?  Are you scaling the image down?

It fits on my monitor at 100% size.  Most images produced by modern cameras must be scaled down below 25% to fit on screen because they're so high in resolution.

Have they given you any indication of what pixel size they're looking for?

If the files are 7MB uncompressed, that does not seem right for  the Canon 1DmIII -- should be around 10 MB I think?    I wonder if it's possible that you're shooting in s-RAW (small RAW) or something less than full RAW on the camera.
