White balance info shown incorrectly for all photos afaik
« on: September 29, 2025, 08:56:48 PM »
It's only been doing this for a few days, as far as I know.

Possibly since installing Tahoe a few days ago as well.

Sorry that I don't remember precisely whether it started the same day.

It happens on HIF and JPEG and pretty much every type of file.

My big fear is that it could corrupt files as I tag or otherwise work with them now.

Is that a possibility, or is this mainly a cosmetic issue?

Please post a photo that shows the white balance as that value.  And post the 'Info Text' that you're using.

This is one example from before installing Tahoe, that still shows the issue.

It also happens with JPEGs as well, although it is taking PM minutes to sort by file type, so that I can find a JPEG to attach, even though it's only a folder of 500 files.

Why does it take PM minutes to sort by file type? I assume it is deep scanning each file's contents to determine the true file type.

Is there a way to sort by extension only, which could take a thousandth of one second, instead of deep scanning file types? That's all I need in this case. I always have wondered why PM has no feature to sort or filter by file extension.

Please note that although your requested example file happens to be a .HIF file, this is not an issue with the HIF file type.

This same issue is happening with all files currently, at least ones that were not already stored in PM's sort cache before the bug began.

Every file, whether HIF or JPEG, whether from the camera card or exported from PhotoLab, shows this issue, unless it's from a folder that had been scanned and loaded prior to when the issue began.

Thank you for the file.  When I view it in PM.2025 on my system, I see:

White Bal.: Manual 6000K M0.25

The line that outputs the string in my Info Text is:

White Bal.: {baln}

I assume that you're using the same variable.  Please let me know if you're using a different one.

It shouldn't take minutes to sort photos in a folder that is local to your computer.

I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic log.  In Photo Mechanic go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Finder window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

I attached my support file (including three logs) above with my first post.

However, it wouldn't have included the slow sorting of that folder by file type. No error happened, just about 150 seconds to sort 500 files by file type, so I'm not sure if it would have logged anything at all.

I have never changed this variable. How do I get to Info Text? It would be helpful actually, to shorten it down and move the date taken lower, to be honest. Because sometimes the first line of the photo info is off screen somehow, and I can't see the date taken without scrolling up.

I have looked carefully through all my settings and cannot find anything about setting Info Text.

I can see a lightning strike near the info panel, but I think lightning strikes are some way of taking snapshots of settings, so I just avoid clicking on them, and I'm not sure what will happen if I click on it.

Have the files that you've noticed this with been images that were initially produced by a Sony camera?

I have found and fixed the problem.  The next build of Photo Mechanic 2025 will have the fix in it.
