4.62 GPS Altitude not being Imported
« on: February 14, 2009, 05:42:06 AM »
Hi Kirk,

I noticed that when I import GPS information from a gpx file to tag my photos that the coordinates are imported but the altitude is not it always reads 0m.  I'm using the latest version of 4.62 beta.  The gpx file is from a Garmin 60CSX and I'm importing the gps info into a D300 Nef file. Does PM only import the Coordinates and not the altitude information?

Also CaptureNX2 still does not read the GPS information, even though it's embedding it in the NEF XMP

Thanks Ron

That's correct.

That's because Capture NX2 only reads GPS data from EXIF.  We don't write GPS data to EXIF in RAW files unless the GPS tags are already present.  Expanding the EXIF in RAW files is very tricky and we've decided that since XMP is really the future for metadata we're only going to put it there if the data doesn't already exist in the EXIF data.

I'm sure that Nikon will improve this in an update.  We've informed them of the issue.

OK thanks for the clarification on the Altitude Kirk.

There's a lot of stuff Nikon needs to standardize in CaptureNX2.

Thanks,
Ron

Are there plans for PM to add altitude information to "Image | Set GPS coordinates..."?

Not at the moment, no.
