PM 5 much slower than PM 4 - normal?
« on: October 10, 2012, 11:07:04 AM »
Hi there!

I'm an owner of Photo Mechanic 4. Now I've spent some time testing the new version 5.

What I found to be disappointing is that the displaying of the next image when navigating through my files is much, much slower than in PM 4. It takes half a second or a little less for PM to switch to the next image when I use the arrow buttons on my keyboard to browse. When I hit the button a few times in a row and then stop, I can watch the images trying to catch up for a second or two.

That's in full screen display. But even when I change the selected Image just in the grid view, the selection does not follow immediately.

All that was the much loved and great thing about Photo Mechanic 4. Everything there was absolutely instant. So I can't believe that you've introduced such bad performance with version 5.

Has anyone either experienced the same thing - or where could possibly be the problem with my installation?

PS: I can cross out my Mac's performance as being an issue.. ;)

Cheers, Mat

Hi Kirk, thanks for your quick response.

I am running PM5 Build 13217 on OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2.

My Mac is a MacBook Pro Retina with 2.7GHz, 16GB RAM and 768 GB SSD. Same issue on my non-retina MBP though.

Cheers, Mat

Mat,

Hi Kirk, thanks for your quick response.

The next build should speed things up significantly.  It should appear in a day or two.

Can verify this.

Latest version of PM5 http://forums.camerabits.com/index.php?topic=7874.0;topicseen MUCH snappier and IMO back to PM4  speeds on my Mac (intel 10.6.8 )

Thanks for getting back to PM's core attraction: SPEED!
