Trick to pair raw+(renamed)jpg?!

Hello!
Can PM recognize JPGs coming from a raw file - even when they were renamed?
If so: is there a possibility for PM to rename the raw by that JPG's (renamed) name?

No, they won't be associated at all unless they have the same base name.

I don't know of any software that will help make potentially random connections with differing filenames and cause them to rename only one of the two files.

One way I can think of to do this in PM would be to use Code Replacement, where the code would be the base name of the RAW file and the replacement would be the base name of the JPEG.  Then the rename would be as simple as:

\{filenamebase}\

What would happen is the base name of the RAW file would be looked up in Code Replacement and the base name of the JPEG would be returned.  But you'd have to generate the Code Replacement text file yourself.  That task alone may be more trouble than it's worth.

Couldn't PM use the capture date to pair!? As the developed JPGs carry precisely the same time stamp that would be a must-match.

If you are sure the capture date is still in the jpgs, I suggest you rename your files according e.g., the sort date and sort time. This will then automatically get both the jpg and the raw with the same same.

PM does not have any other mechanism than the filename to pair jpg and raw files, so this would be your only option, I think.
