gps Reverse Geocode
« on: July 15, 2024, 01:43:10 AM »
I took some photos in Italy (44 10.895; 12 25.538), and reverse geocoding locates them in Praia da Vitória, Oak Tree Lane, Juncal, Quinta Lobateira, Praia da Vitória, Praia da Vitória (Santa Cruz), Praia da Vitória, Portalegre, Azores, 8300, Portugal. For no reason. What’s going on? The funny thing is that some photos taken 50 km away from the first location are geolocated in Tunisia.

Some photos taken in Ronta di Cesena, FC, Italy have been geolocated to a location in Russia (see photo).

For what it's worth, I had a similar experience with some iPhone photos taken in Munich. I exported the HEIC files as jpegs and then used the reverse geocode lookup. Adjacent photos showed Munich (correct) and Valli, Italy. 48° 8.489' N; 11° 33.542' E and 48° 8.823' N; 11° 34.320' E respectively. The correct location is shown on the map associated with each photo on my iPhone ie both in Munich.

We are currently running an update on the Reverse Geocoding database that we hope will resolve the issue.

Hey folks, we're still having some issues with the data being returned by the Reverse Geocode service. At the moment, we recommend either not using the service, or at the very least, double-checking that the information it returns makes sense. We're going to make a post in the Announcements forum that will go into greater detail, but I wanted to get a quick message out to all of the users who have reported the problem to let you all know the current status.
