PM almost UNUSABLE since Mac OS Sequoia
« on: February 05, 2025, 07:32:28 AM »
Hey folks at PM,

VERY long time user here, pro photojournalist from Montreal, Canada.

We use M1 Mac machines (16gig ram) and our IT dept. asked us to upgrade to Sequoia in mid to late 2024.

Ever since that moment our PM versions - running Photo Mechanic Version 6.0, build 7212 (90865b3) are SLOW, painfully SLOW to resume after a Command-TAB switch from another software, either Photoshop or our browser that we need to keep open for IPTC infos and assignment platform.

Either the screen stays on the current opened app and nothing happens.... or if I use Mission Control to swap between apps, back to PM, I get the beachball rotation for anywhere from 5-30 seconds....

Seriously this is maddening !!!!!!!

I even tried your latest native version during the holidays... NO improvement.... 🤦‍♂️

Please let us know how we can try sending you data or logs to work on that issue.

best regards,

Hugo,
La Presse newspaper, Montreal Canada.

Have you tried disabling "Rescan on resume" from the Contact Sheet section of Settings/Preferences?

The user who posted this thread never reached out to us, so we have no further information about the problem they were experiencing. If turning off 'Rescan on Resume' doesn't work, please reach out to our support team directly.

FWIW, I have no issues with macOS 15 Sequoia (which I've been running since release) and PM.

I have been using Photo Mechanic since 2011 and I have to say that the Apple Silicon build is just horrible for me. It hangs regularly, it beachballs regularly. A lot of times doing really simple things. Today it beachballed when I tried to open two empty folders as contact sheets. I had to Force Quit it twice.

It's such a stark contrast to the pre-Apple Silicon versions which never gave me a single problem for over 15 years. I'm on a pretty decent Mac setup too an M3 Max Mac Book Pro with 48GB of RAM which makes it seems even stranger.

Every day I immediacy scroll to Help and check Software Update in hopes there is a new build because this is just not the Photo Mechanic I know and love.

That is strange. My laptop for editing in the field (on deadline for wire services) is an M1 MacBook Air with only 8 GB of RAM. Photo Mechanic flies on it and the Universal version is even faster than the old Intel-only PM6, which I always found fast enough.

I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic log.  In Photo Mechanic go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Finder window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk
