Help re-naming files
« on: November 25, 2008, 08:48:59 AM »
Kirk is there a way for me to rename 20081122-1102G7-lw-grls-Abington B vs Bridgewater B-0244.jpg  into   20081122-1102G7-lw-bys-Abington B vs Bridgewater B-0244.jpg  ?

I need to keep the numbers the way that they are.

Thanks

Eric,

Kirk is there a way for me to rename 20081122-1102G7-lw-grls-Abington B vs Bridgewater B-0244.jpg  into   20081122-1102G7-lw-bys-Abington B vs Bridgewater B-0244.jpg  ?

I need to keep the numbers the way that they are.

Does the number of digits ever vary, or are there always the same number of digits in each set of numbers?

The following rename string should work for you:

{filenamebase:1,19}bys{filenamebase:-33}

If the preview of the names doesn't appear right, adjust the count or index of the substring extraction parameters until you get what you're looking for.

HTH,

You don't indicate if you are using a Mac, but if you are, every Mac comes with a finder script entitled "Replace Text in Item Names". You select the folder of images, run the script and it will ask you which part of the filenames you want to replace & what to put in that place. Very fast, very simple and I have found it very useful many times.
