Persistent crashes

I have the following set up

PM 5.o build 17338 (df27633)

AMD Athlon II x4 640 Processor 3.oo GHz
4.00 GB ram
32 bit OS
Windows 7 Pro

PM keeps crashing and becoming unresponsive. I have tried re installing afresh but problem persists. Can anyone suggest what my settings should be to get more stability?
