Ingest not unmounting source disk since last update.
« on: August 04, 2016, 03:00:27 PM »
Hi,

Running Photo Mechanic Version 5.0, build 17671 on a Macbook Air with El Capitan version 10.11.6

Since installing the latest update, after ingesting CF cards, Photomechanic no longer unmounts the source disk, despite the box being ticked in the ingest box.

Was working fine up until installing latest build.

Am using Cf cards with a Lexar USB3 Pro Workflow CF cardreader.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

John

Are there any errors listed in the Ingest progress window?  If there are errors then the card will not be unmounted.

Hi Kirk,

No errors - all ingested as normal.

Thanks

Hi John,

I tried your Ingest on my X.10.11.6 Macs and the card does get unmounted as long as there aren't any errors during the Ingest process.  I also tried a card with non-photo files as well as some image files, which did log an Ingest error and the card did not eject, which is normal behavior.   When you are done with the Ingest and the card is still mounted, can you go back to the Ingest dialog, select the card and then click the Unmount button?  Does this unmount the card?  If not, then there is probably another application ( possible the Photos app ) trying to access the card.   If the card does unmount from the Ingest dialog, then please send a copy of the PM.log.zip file. This can be accessed from the Reveal Support data option in Photo Mechanic's Help menu.

Thanks for your help with this issue.

Hi Bob / Kirk,

Have tried to replicate the issue again today, using many different cameras and CF cards to rule out any faulty hardware.

All but one of the ingest worked perfectly - copying the images, unmounting the card and displaying the following message in the ingest tasks window:

Finished copying from volume "/Volumes/EOS_DIGITAL/".
Volume "/Volumes/EOS_DIGITAL/" has been unmounted and is safe to eject.

However on that one failure, it copied all the images correctly but failed to unmount the CF card. No text was displayed at all in the ingest task window (Meaning no errors were shown but also no message that it was safe to eject - if that makes sense.)

Have tried to replicate it again with the same card and cannot get it to happen.

It was happening almost every ingest during the previous few days, but now nothing......

Possibly it's an intermittent hardware issue either with the reader or a few cards.

Will keep any eye on it over the next few days.

Thanks as always for your quick support.

John

I am having the same issue since the update. CF cards not unmounting after ingest.
No errors. Nothing else on card.
MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) OS X 10.11.6
Lexar Pro cards. 32 gig.

I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic log.  In Photo Mechanic go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Finder window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Hi,

After a little more testing, I think I may have narrowed down what might be causing the cards to not unmount in my case.

Not sure which equipment you use David, but if I ingest cards from a Canon 1DX Mark II then they will unmount correctly. However, if I've been using a Canon WFT transmitter with the same identical camera then they will not unmount after ingesting.

I'm guessing that the camera must write a small file to the card regarding the activity of the WFT unit that then stops Photomechanic unmounting the disk as it maybe sees some 'non-photo' files and stops the unmount.

However, I've compared the files on the CF cards from cameras used with and without a WFT connected and there seems to be no difference to the types of files written to the cards.

Also, I have been using Canon 1Dx Mark II bodies with WFT transmitters since the spring and have only had this issue for the last few weeks so it still doesn't quite add up.

Let me know if you are also using Canon bodies and WFT transmitters.

Regards,

John

I am using Nikon D4 and no transmitting. Downloading straight to MacBook Pro.
I now see the CF card is not getting erased either.

Yes, after reviewing my other CF cards it appears my cards are not erased. I unchecked and then rechecked the erase source disk and then verified but cards are still not erasing after copy.

David and John,

Would either (or both) of you be willing to try some test builds of PM5 for me so we can get to the bottom of this problem?  We're unable to reproduce the problem with unmounting (or erasing) on our systems with the cards/card readers that we have available to us.

Please let me know if you can help.

Thanks,

-Kirk

I'm having this issue as well.  Cards will randomly not erase and unmount.  Cards will erase and unmount one time then the next time they won't.
