Sometimes no answer from PM5
« on: October 02, 2016, 01:03:41 AM »
Hello,

since I've updated my system to MacOS Sierra 10.12 sometimes (don't know under which circumstances) PM5 won't work. I've no access to the program and it's neccessary to kill PM5 and restart it.
That's a problem if I've send some photos out of a collection to an agency, because the sended photos will lost there green marker at the upper right corner and I can't see which photos I've send, and which not.

Do you have a solution?

No, because I don't have enough information to make a diagnosis.  I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic log.  In Photo Mechanic go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Finder window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Thanks for the log.  On Oct 1st, you had a number of errors related to socket connections (TCP/IP connections) to your server:

[Sat Oct-01-2016 14:12:41.934][b62cf000][1377384] FTPClient.cpp:474 TCPSocket::connect() failed, waiting and trying again
[Sat Oct-01-2016 14:12:42.975][b62cf000][1377480] FTPClient.cpp:474 TCPSocket::connect() failed, waiting and trying again
[Sat Oct-01-2016 14:12:44.014][b62cf000][1377544] FTPClient.cpp:474 TCPSocket::connect() failed, waiting and trying again
[Sat Oct-01-2016 14:12:45.049][b62cf000][1378128] FTPClient.cpp:481 TCPSocket::connect() failed permanently
[Sat Oct-01-2016 14:12:45.049][b62cf000][1378128] FTPClient.cpp:712 FTPClient::open(): Could not make connection to server

Later you had some Ingest errors because files that Ingest thought existed no longer existed by the time Ingest tried to copy them.

And after that, your DNS wasn't working correctly:

[Sat Oct-01-2016 14:58:25.211][b62cf000][1610212] FTPClient.cpp:835 FTPClient::getresp(): Server responded with transient error
[Sat Oct-01-2016 17:51:32.477][c084b000][2464948] FTPClient.cpp:406 ERROR: gethostbyname(pressefotoeibner.de) failed
[Sat Oct-01-2016 17:51:32.478][c084b000][2465208] FTPClient.cpp:712 FTPClient::open(): Could not make connection to server

These are likely transient errors that are unrelated to any specific Mac OS X version.

Are these problems related to the server of the receiver (the agency) or the internet connection at my office?

On Oct 1st my internet provider had some big problems in our region. Over many hours the connection was very unstable and slow. Sometimes I lost the connection over minutes.

Looks to me that it is on your end, but it's hard to tell why a socket can't be opened from the data in the messages alone.

The DNS is very likely a problem with your ISP.
