« on: November 16, 2016, 01:51:45 PM »
Photo Mechanic Version 5.0, build 16960 (6ba2289)
Macbook Pro Retina OS X El Capitan v10.11.6 (15G1108)

I have the following text in the Credit: field on the ITPC Stationary Pad
"Mandatory Photo Credit: Peter Fitzpatrick"

When photos are ingested the text is truncated to
"Mandatory Photo Credit: Peter Fit"

As displayed in PM?  Where are you seeing the truncated text?  Can you post a sample image?  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your sample file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Hi Kirk,

Please find two screen grabs
The first one is of the IPTC Stationary Pad
The second one is of the IPTC Stationary Pad of an ingested photo

Can you save your IPTC Stationery Pad out to an XMP file and post it here?  Can you also post the photo where the caption has been truncated?  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your files.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Peter,

It looks like you have used Photoshop and that it has truncated the fields.  I suspect that your IPTC/XMP preferences in PM are set to prefer IPTC over XMP as I can see that the equivalent XMP fields are not truncated.  PM doesn't truncate any fields in IPTC or XMP, but Photoshop does.  I'd like to see a screen shot of your IPTC/XMP settings in the Preferences dialog, please.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshot.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Yep, as Kirk suggested, you are preferring IPTC over XMP. Change their order and things will be as expected :)

You're welcome! And to give you some background as to why Adobe might truncate those fields, it's because the iptc standard imposes length limits on those fields. PM doesn't want you to lose any data so they don't chop them (though strictly it is against the standard), but Adobe does. You are best off with XMP anyway as that is the future.
