Previews start to flicker

I run photo mechanic 5, version 18327 on windows 10 (x64).

My problem is that after using PM for a while (anywhere from 5 mins to 20 mins) all images start flickering making me unable to continue the culling process.
I have to restart PM and continue where i left until it starts happening again.
I had the same problem on win 7 as i have now on win10 (upgraded a few days ago).
I've tried reinstalling several times and the "resetting preferences" trick from one of the pinned forum posts.

Things ive tried:
Different compatibility modes.
Tried lots of different options in caching and preview settings.
Using 2 and 4 cpu cores instead of 8.

Here is a picture of what it looks like: http://imgur.com/a/2xQNf
you can see only one thumbnail in the picture but they all flicker (show and dissappear).
Also when this happens cpu usage goes up to about 50% (task manager).

Any idea? Any help appreciated, cheers!
