How to Code Pro Tennis? Anyone?
« on: March 20, 2007, 07:49:07 AM »
How do you guys use code replacements for pro tennis, a sport with impossible to spell names, no teams, and no jersey numbers...

Help?

Thanks,

Dennis

You could use INITIALS instead of jersey numbers:

/SW/ Serena Williams
/MN/ Martina Navratilova
/MS/ MEGHANN SHAUGHNESSY
/AH/ ASHLEY HARKLEROAD

Sure there will be duplicates, then u add a middle initial or some other descriptive alphanumeric character...

Delane,

Thanks. Good idea, and that's where I was headed. Now the question is, does anyone have the current ATP roster entered into a TXT file, or am I off to do another ESPN.com screen scrape?

Actually, I'm covering the next event in Miami and I think they have the entrants listed, so this may be the way to go.

OK, OK, it looks like I'm the lone code replacement writer on this board anymore. For anyone needing them, here is a list of pro tennis players with their countries of origin, based on the entrants list to the Sony-Ericsson open that appears online. I made one list for the men, and one for the women.

The actual 'acceptance list" is somewhat different, as I just picked mine up today.

I used the player's initials, with the prefix of "WT' for womens tennis and "MT" for mens, with suffixes where there were dupicates that could not easily be eliminated with middle initials. As a minimum, this list will save someone having to spell some pretty tough names.
