Error reading caption
« on: November 22, 2017, 01:37:13 AM »
Good day everyone, hope someone can help me.

My workflow:

Ingest jpgs to IMPORT folder
Add all necessary IPTC data
Drag selected jpgs into EDIT folder
Lightroom watches this folder on Autoimport
Crop etc then export from LR.

I have recently invested in a Canon 1DX Mark 1 but when I import the jpgs to PM and caption the image, I get 'Error reading caption from photo.'

If I use my Canon 7D Mark 2, this error doesn't happen.

The error shows up when I look at the jpgs in the EDIT folder in PM.

I'm using Photo Mechanic Version 5.0, build 18980 (60d39ba) on a MacBook Air running El Capitan.

In the 1DX, the jpgs are set to large (full size) and same in the 7D2.

Can anyone throw some light, please???

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Can you post an example image that exhibits this problem? Both the original image direct from the camera as well as the image after adding the metadata in PM would be helpful to analyse.

Hello again,

Here is an original image from the camera and then one with IPTC data added.

Also 2 screen shots showing the error; note that the text turns red in the PM window when the error is reported.

Please also note it doesn't happen if I shoot in RAW, only JPEG.

I'm using the latest firmware for the Canon and the latest version of PM.

Hope this helps!

Dan,

I downloaded both files and load into PM and can see both images fine.  There isn't much metadata (one has "TESTING" in the caption) but no metadata like credits etc.  The image that has "TESTING" also has an embedded sRGB profile.  But both images load just fine.

Maybe something to do with LR.
