Ingesting speed
« on: November 26, 2018, 07:48:25 AM »
Hello,

what slows down ingesting speed ?

Sometimes it is very fast (about 0.5 second per file), sometimes it is very slow (about 4 seconds per file) to ingest CR2 files. I did not change any settings (PM or MAC OS (10.14)). 'Empty cache' does not help. PM cache folder is not indexed by Spotlight

(By the way: There are a lot of files (122) in the ...ingest/incremental folder)

I have no idea what would cause it to change if absolutely no other settings or cards/devices have changed.  That said, macOS Mojave is a new OS and it is likely that the new OS has bugs in it.  (I have found several and have worked around them in the latest builds of PM5.)

That should have no impact on ingest speed.

I set the camera to 'Auto reset' (restarts the file numbering from 0001 each time the card is replaced or a new folder is created). Does that slow down PM's ingesting workflow ?

That should have no effect on the speed of Ingest.

Certainly.  But if you have a card that you've shot new photos onto since your last Incremental Ingest, the entire contents of the card will be ingested again.
