Is PM 6 now subscription based software?
« on: March 25, 2019, 07:18:58 AM »
I did a version check on my PM5 and received this in the pop-up banner:

"There is a newer version 5.0 (build 19749) of Photo Mechanic for Windows available for you to download and use.

There is also the latest version 6.0 (build 2725) of Photo Mechanic which requires a yearly update for you to use."

Has PM 6 moved to an annual subscription based model?  Requiring a yearly update looks like the Adobe model, am I wrong?

I'd like a screen shot of that please.

We do not have a subscription model.

Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshot.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Thanks.  Those responsible for the website are redoing the page and it should be updated soon.

The page has been updated and that unfortunate language has been removed.

Section 5 of the EULA still refers to annual renewal for a fee.

Thanks for pointing that out to me.

The EULA currently refers to licensing agreements for both corporate and individual retail editions of Photo Mechanic. To alleviate confusion, we're going to update the EULA for each edition to reflect only the licensing relevant to the edition you've purchased. We hope this will be clearer for everyone.  Individual retail use of Photo Mechanic does not require any sort of subscription, or annual licensing option. The purchased license is valid and perpetual for that edition along with any associated build updates within that version number.  As an example: an individual retail license of Photo Mechanic 6 will never expire and work in perpetuity for as long as you have a computer that will run Photo Mechanic 6, and any updated "build" of Photo Mechanic 6 is a free update for that license.

Thanks, Kirk.

I will just add that PM6 is noticeably faster than PM5 on my four year old iMac (Mojave), so I quickly moved from Trial to Registered.

Great.  And if you want to prove to yourself that PM6 isn't subscription-ware, set your system clock ahead temporarily by a year and see that when you start PM6 up it doesn't ask you for a new license.  It shouldn't.
