New feature - Ingest from selection

Ok, I understand this is a new feature.  Perhaps I'm missing something here....Previously, I would tag the images I wanted, apply my stationary pad, crop, then select the images I wanted to "ingest".....But I would ingest by dragging them into LR.  So, what if any advantages does this new feature have?

I take it you edit on your card and you don't ingest to your hard drive or server first?  If that's the case, then I don't think any of the Ingest features in PM are going to be part of your workflow.
