PM+ hangs on catalog import

Win10 Pro

I cannot import (scan to catalog) most of my images because the import process hangs on the last step in Tasks: "Catalog Metadata Updates", the icon is yellow and the program is frozen (the other task icons are all green). Force closing and relaunching does not work, uninstalling PM+ and reinstalling does not work.
I have my images organized in folders by year (about 2-5,000 images each). Some years import ok but most just hang making it impossible to use the beta. I cannot import several years at one time, have to import only one year at a time in order for the import to work, so far only 3 years have imported successfully, the other years I tried all failed.

Something is wrong in PM+, my images have always imported easily into other DAM software including ACDSee which is my current catalog software.
