Photo Mechanic Plus Beta 5
« on: June 20, 2019, 06:31:57 PM »
Hello Everyone,

This is the fourth update to the Photo Mechanic Plus beta.  This beta is open to all Photo Mechanic 6 users.  We would appreciate you trying the beta of Photo Mechanic Plus and giving us your feedback and relay any bugs that you find to us.  Two new message boards have been created to discuss the beta.  Please do not discuss the beta on any of the other boards.  For support on the beta post in, and to request features, post in

Please note that the Photo Mechanic Plus Beta is not feature complete nor is it tuned for maximum performance.  Any catalogs you create may need to be updated if the underlying database format changes.

We invite you to be part of the development process.

Public Beta 5 Release (R3328)

● Fixed: Folder arrows missing in Navigator when a folder contains a large number of sub-folders.
● Fixed: Preview Window automatically closes after saving an image.
● Fixed: Unable to erase camera card on completion of Ingest when the card is a CFast card.
● Restored ‘F5’ Refresh option in Navigator.
● Navigator now shows Unmount/Eject options for all volumes on its contextual menu. If the operation cannot be performed, the items will be disabled.
● Fixed: crash that could occur if a top-level Contact Sheet window is closed before the Favorites or Navigator finished getting their folders loaded.
● Slideshow feature now allows user to hit “return” to start slideshow from the dialog.
● Made various performance improvements for drawing thumbnails and previews (for instance: thumbnail frames are now rectangular instead of rounded rectangles.)

● Fixed: Favorites not displaying on startup
● Fixed: Installer improperly handling customized GStreamer path settings.
● Fixed: Issue loading arrangement file.
● Fixed: Issue where PM wouldn’t accept a .XMP or .IPT file (saved Metadata (IPTC) Template file) when dropped on the application. PM would open the folder containing the file as a contact sheet and then select the dropped file.
● Fixed: various issues with Undo/Redo in autocomplete/spell-checking text fields.
● Fixed: crash that would occur in Favorites or Navigator when background loading folder information.
● Fixed: sorting inconsistencies in Navigator.
● Fixed: Windows Installer does not recall last installation location.
● The Favorites list is now global across all PM products allowing for products to share the same list of Favorites.
● Turned off Windows 7 TaskBar interaction. It wasn’t popular and was responsible for frequent crashes for some users.

● Performance: Multi-threaded support added for local catalogs. This should either fix or help improve various issues we have received feedback on including:
  ○ Re-indexing one catalog no longer blocks searches to other catalogs.
  ○ UI sluggishness in responding to changes to "Search" catalog selection while ingest is active (Organizer view).
  ○ Adding filter stages while catalog is being scanned/updated causing sluggish/unresponsive behavior.
  ○ Adding images to catalog stalls when user clicks on a filter while task of updating metadata is active.
  ○ Image counts are now updated while under heavy load updating catalog images.
● Catalog Maintenance: The Catalog Status window now displays a list of missing or unreachable catalogs having pending updates, and it is now possible to "forget" updates for such missing catalogs. You can double-click on a Catalog task in the Tasks pane to bring up the Catalog Status window directly.
● Feature: Reverse Geo now allows user to specify language. Settings are in Preferences->GPS tab (new tab was added for this support).
● Fixed: Incorrect Image Rotation on CNX2-processed NEFs that have crop set on them.
● Fixed: Ingest won't start with Apply MD Template checked.
● Fixed: uploader not saving refresh token during upload.
● Fixed: Filter results are now refreshed when metadata changes occur in active catalogs.
● Fixed: Replacing/opening in a contact sheet that has a catalog filter/browser selection in it does not work.
● Fixed: A catalog can become re-opened while background delete is in progress.
● Fixed: Create Collection appears to succeed when no catalogs are checked for 'add/modify'.
● Fixed: Collections break when collection name contains forward slash.
● Fixed: “Open in Contact Sheet” contextual menu issues in Organizer.
● Fixed: Item counts should always be visible in catalog filter/browser.
● Fixed: User should be able to expand Organizer nodes recursively.
● Fixed: Double-clicking in Collections when no Collections exist opens Collections tab containing all images in Catalog.
● Fixed: Slide show stalls related to improper handling of rendering certain font sizes.
● Fixed: Slide show random black screen when starting slide show.
● Fixed: issues with uploading files with names containing UTF-8 characters.
● Fixed: issues with rendering various PNG file formats. (palette, grayscale, interlaced, etc.)
● Fixed: PhotoShelter uploader not showing Collections or Galleries when client has ‘Contributor’ access.
● Fixed: IPTC Preferences not properly resetting defaults for ‘Write IPTC as Unicode’ settings.
● Fixed: Fuji X-H1 focus mode setting is read incorrectly.
● Fixed: Metadata (IPTC) Template will no longer accept fields that are set to append that contain their own variable. This would result in crashes when applied.
● Added contextual menu allowing users to remove selected items from the currently selected Collection(s).
● Default catalog location moved to "Documents" folder instead of "Pictures" folder.
● "Scan to Catalog" is now smart enough to not scan catalog folders.
● Added support for uploading to SlickPic.
● Allow use of image filenames as page names in Photo Mechanic Classic X Templates.
● Restored Find/Replace functionality that existed in Photo Mechanic 5 product.
● Performance of Find in filenames is improved.
● .ON1 files can now be associated with any image file type.
● Updates to back end to improve performance and reliability.
