PM6: power consumption
« on: June 22, 2019, 10:27:50 AM »
I have been using PM5 to do a lot of keyboarding / triage when out on the go (ie, on battery) on a MacBook Pro, before woking on them with power-hungry Lightroom.  I found it very frugal.

PM6 seems a step backwards: it seems to eat battery even when it's doing nothing but showing me a preview statically, eg.

It relies on previews in embedded in the raw file, or a sidecar JPEG, or Adobe DNG convertor, rather than using the MacOS raw processing engine to generate previews.   This makes it harder to see what you've got, or takes up extra space or eats additional battery.  (I don't know why the MacOS raw processing was more economical with power.)

At the very least, PM6 should be idle when it's idle.
