Catalog contact sheet results un-sorted by when first shown

In the catalog views the contact sheets results are not being sorted when they are first shown.  You have to select a sort order from the drop down.

All three behaves the same. I have Filename as default sort type. When changed to Capture time I had the same result.

I use several cameras. It seem that the actual default sort order is identical to the ingest order, i.e. filename camera one, filename camera two.

What sort type is listed when the results initially appear?

That's intentional.  It follows the way reusing a Contact Sheet acts.  On initial open all Contact Sheet tabs use your default sort, thumbnail size, etc.  If you change the sort type and reuse the Contact Sheet (by right-clicking on a folder in the Favorites or Navigator and choosing "Open in current Contact Sheet") then your chosen sort is not overridden with the default sort.

Same goes for Search results tabs, Browse tabs, Filter tabs, and Collections (though Collections always default to Arrangement sort).

I don't know if this is the same issue reported by the original poster (Gary D.).

Now if you're saying that the results in the tab are not even sorted to the last chosen sort type, then that's a problem.

I will try and explain differently:

After opening PM+, having all catalog tabs closed, working in “old” PM, I have sort order File name same as my default. And the sort order is correct. As you describe above.

Switching to the Catalog function and search/filter/browse an item, the sort order in the dialog box switches to Capture Time. The actual sort order is neither File name nor Capture time.

If I then change sort order to color class for those chosen items it is ok. A new Search/Filter/Browse will however not be by color class even if the dialog says so. Nor File name.

I'm not sure whether this is the same issue, a different issue, or I'm just being dense.

I'm running Photomechanic Plus V6 build 4617 under Windows 10 home.

As far as I can see, the sort function just doesn't work, ever.  Shown below are three screen grabs showing sort by filename, by capture time and modification time.  Each thumbnail has three labels: file name, capture time, and modification time.  (My default file naming convention is {datesort}-{seq}.)

As you can see, none of these sorts are correct.  In fact, I think they are all the same.

You have multiple catalogs set for searching.  The results of each catalog search are interleaved together.  Due to the nature of how the Catalog system works (it's really a server) results can come from multiple servers (not enabled yet) and may arrive at different points in time.  They can't be pre-sorted any other way before they make it to the Contact Sheet.  We may add an option to force a local sort that would give non-interleaved results.  But if the number of results is large, then this could take some time to complete.

If you set only one Catalog for search, this problem should not occur.  Try turning off all but one and try again.

Open PM, choice one catalog, filter new ==> all my pictures, not sorted by CaptureTime as required.

Im still seeing the results not sorted when I first select something under the Organizer tab.

Here's what I do
Start PM
Go to Organize tab
Turn off Search and Add/Modigy on two of my three catalogs ( only one has both items checked)
My sort order is set to Capture Time.
Go to Browser->Color Class->Purple.    and the contact sheet comes up UN-sorted  ( Capture Time is shown as the sort criteria)
Open the sort drop down and select Capture time and the contact sheet sorts correctly.
Select sort order Filename and again sorts correctly by filename

Hit Clear button on the browse, Contact sheet  is empty
Select   Color Class -> Purple,   Contact sheet appears unsorted
Open the sort drop down, select Filename and contact sheet sorts properly

Had the same behavior under Filter and Search

Just some added info.. It appears that the images are initially sorted by folder path.
For the catalog Im using the images are in a directory tree that looks like:
  ORIGINALS/GAILH/YEARS
  ORIGINALS/GARYD/YEARS
  ORIGINALS/MARCD/YEARS
  ORIGINALS/PATH/YEARS....


The images in the contact sheet were coming out in that order    I.E.  purple under GailH, then purples under GARYD , purple under MarcD ....
