Changing Catalog Location
« on: June 12, 2020, 08:16:33 AM »
Kirk,

Running latest Windows 10 Home and latest PM+.

1. Moved the Photo Mechanic Catalog folder from Documents to Pictures.
2. Started PM+
3. Catalogs could not be found.
4. Manage Catalogs; Locate Existing Catalog; point to Photo Mechanic Catalog folder in Pictures; receive error - can't open.
5. Close PM+
6. Restart PM+ and all is well - catalog is still in Pictures and now open.

My question is shouldn't the Locate Existing Catalog function complete successfully without having to shut down PM+ and restart?

Thanks,
-- Ken

Kirk,

Screenshots:
1. Starting PM+ after moving the folder. I expected this.
2. Error message after the Locate function. This shows the Pictures folder where the catalog folder is now located.
3. Manage Catalogs - still shows Documents
4. Manage Catalogs after stop and restart of PM+. Everything is fine.

Ken,

We think the next build of Photo Mechanic Plus should eliminate that problem.

Thanks, Kirk!

The other thing I noticed is that after the successful move of the catalogs to Pictures, PM+ still creates a catalog folder in Documents, even though the catalogs aren't there anymore. Will the fix include a fix for that?

Thanks again,

What is the name of the folder that was created?

Kirk,

PM6+ always creates a Photo Mechanic Catalogs folder in Documents if it doesn't exist when starting PM6+. It's empty as the catalogs are (for me) in Pictures.

I am having the same issue. Although I deleted the default catalog and made a new one on another drive, PM (build 6097) still creates an empty "Photo Mechanic Catalogs" folder in My Documents.

Any way of getting rid of this? I would like to keep my documents folder strictly for documents.

No, there is no way to prevent this from happening at this time.

It's something I'd like to address in a future build.
