Photo Mechanic Plus Beta 19
« on: June 18, 2020, 06:01:17 PM »
Hello Everyone,

This is the eighteenth update to the Photo Mechanic Plus beta.  This beta is open to all Photo Mechanic 6 users.  We would appreciate you trying the beta of Photo Mechanic Plus and giving us your feedback and relay any bugs that you find to us.  Two new message boards have been created to discuss the beta.  Please do not discuss the beta on any of the other boards.  For support on the beta post in http://forums.camerabits.com/index.php?board=22.0, and to request features, post in http://forums.camerabits.com/index.php?board=23.0

Please note that the Photo Mechanic Plus Beta is not feature complete nor is it tuned for maximum performance.  Any catalogs you create may need to be updated if the underlying database format changes.

We invite you to be part of the development process.

Public Beta 19 Release (R4826) 06/18/2020

All Platforms:
• Added: Fast sorting for multiple catalogs when the sort type is one of the non-custom sort types.
• Added: Custom sorting of Catalog results.  Local sorting is now performed for multiple catalogs when the sort type is one of the custom sort types.  This local sorting can be rather slow on large datasets.  You can press the Escape key to cancel the sort which will stop the sort but can leave the items in the previous sorted state.
• Added: Catalog Info submenu added to the thumbnail contextual menu (grouped with the Include/Remove Catalog items) which shows the names of the catalogs this item belongs.
• Added: Manage Shared Paths feature that allows the user to pick common paths shared between computers.  Usually these paths are going to be on network drives that have different paths depending on the OS platform.  For instance, say you have a network drive that publishes a folder named “Photos”.  On macOS, it would mount as /Volumes/Photos and on Windows it could be accessed via drive letter Q:\Photos or via \\Server\Photos.  On your two systems you could make that path be simply considered as “Photos”.  (This feature is a Work In Progress. Currently Shared Paths must be configured before images are included in a catalog, to take effect.)
• Added: better support for getting metadata (EXIF, maker notes, GPS) from ISOBMFF still image formats (HEIC, HIF)
• Added: HEIF and HIF files can now be soft-rotated and have their capture time adjusted.
• Fixed: Catalog now coalesces metadata requests in a time sensitive priority.  Improves streaming browse speed.
• Fixed: Improved speed fetching search results in "raw+jpeg" combined mode.
• Fixed: Locate Existing Catalog feature now replaces known catalog when located.
• Fixed: Changing a folder name within Photo Mechanic Plus causes Catalog issues.
• Fixed: Filtering by Selected with multiple searched catalogs doesn’t work consistently.
• Fixed: 90 or 270 degree rotated HIF files can now be rendered.
• Fixed: Issue that caused the local catalog state database to have self-contradictory data, leading to inconsistencies determining whether an image was included in a catalog.
• Fixed: Render Cache aging/purging was broken.  It would purge items that had been newly rendered if the user had set a time limit for cached previews.
• Fixed: Restored single folder-based tabs now sort correctly when using one of the custom sort types.
• Fixed: Uploaders should not send sidecar files for JPEG, TIFF, PNG, DNG, etc.
• Fixed: Photoshelter upload template now allows existing files to be overwritten.
• Fixed: Amazon S3 upload template now shows upload rate in Upload progress window.
• Fixed: Crop Previews drawn off-center.
• Fixed: Crop Preview mode automatically deactivates when moving to an image that has no crop.
• Fixed: Panasonic {firmware} version number is now correct.
• Fixed: Autocomplete now obeys settings more consistently.
• Fixed: Applying a crop to an image (or adjusting Capture Time) with a soft rotation made in PM when the image does not have the EXIF orientation tag no longer loses the soft rotation.  Orientation data is now stored in XMP in this case.
• Fixed: Set GPS Coordinates not updating XMP. Now always checks for GPS in XMP, even if there is EXIF GPS data. Only uses XMP GPS data if EXIF GPS data doesn't exist. XMP GPS data is now updated if it exists when GPS coordinates are set.
• Fixed: Crash issue when updating improperly-formatted IPTC in JPEGs saved by GIMP.  These files will now produce an error when updating until a repair can be made to the files.

macOS:

• Fixed: The Filter type popup menu is now hierarchical on macOS.  No longer will users experience a screen-high list of options.
• Fixed: Color Management not working correctly in Preview window when color management toolbar button is toggled.
• Fixed: Search field in Search tab now loses focus when another UI element gains focus.
• Fixed: Navigation Services dialogs not restoring the last used path on a per-feature basis.

Windows:

• Fixed: A GDI handle leak that was responsible for the crashes that many users have been experiencing since Photo Mechanic 6 was released.
• Fixed: Windows Installer failing to replace some files.
• Fixed: Cannot enter ALT key sequences in the Metadata Info dialog box.
