Stuck at Catalog Metadata Gathering.
« on: October 24, 2020, 05:21:25 AM »
iMac 5K 27", photos in My Photos folder on LaCie 8TB HD connected to iMac with Thunderbolt. The My Photos folder is 2.83 TB. PM6+ Build 5215 (abbcb1f).

Yesterday I tried to create my first catalog with PM6+. After six hours or so it was still showing many hours remaining (it jumped around between 14 and 7 hours). I had to put the computer to sleep overnight and closed PM6+. The next morning I reopened PM6+. The program then stuck on Catalog Metadata Gathering for three hours. I closed the program, rebooted the computer and tried again. The program has been stuck on Catalog Metadata Gathering for over an hour.

Catalog Image Preview Generationis stuck on Amber with 15,331 batches remaining.

Activity Monitor shows 1.7% CPU usage by PM6+.

I attach a screenshot.

Please could you advise. Thank you.

I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic log.  In Photo Mechanic go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Finder window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Andrew,

Thanks, Kirk, here is the zipped log file.

Could you please try this build? https://www.camerabits.com/download/PhotoMechanicPlusR5251_bf557ff7.dmg

Could you also turn on Catalog debug logging and post the log, please?  From the Help menu, choose "Edit Debug Settings..." and find the item titled CATALOG_DEBUG_LOGGING and set its checkbox.  Then click the Close button.  Then restart Photo Mechanic Plus and reproduce the problem.  From the Help menu choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Finder window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Thanks, Kirk, new log file attached after debug logging checked.

Thank you.  Could you open up the Catalog Status window (Catalog->Catalog Status...) and cancel pending jobs via the two "Stop" buttons.  Then retry your Scan to Catalog using that new build I provided you.  Then if the problem happens again send the logs again.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Thanks, Kirk, the new build got me there, but only after it froze after several hours. I quit and restarted PM6+ and the process was duly completed.

I have tried to add the log, but it is too large to upload.

Hi Andrew,

I have tried to add the log, but it is too large to upload.

I've temporarily increased the attachment size limit. Could you try the upload again?

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for uploading the log file. Unfortunately the time range covered by the logging in this latest upload didn't go back far enough to include the point where the previously mentioned freeze would have occurred.

Have any more freezes occurred since?

If it does freeze again, let's try another log upload at that time.

Regards,

Bill

I have not done any more scanning to catalog, so no more freezes, but I will report back if anything like that does happen.

Things seem to be working fine now.
