Choose new location... not working.
« on: November 04, 2020, 05:41:43 AM »
I am trying PM+ and really hoped to be able to make it part of my workflow. But I can not get the catalog to work consistently. As a former Mac user, it took me a while to figure that windows keep changing the letter path of my external drives and that messes up the catalog. It seems like if I change the drive letter in windows drive manager it fixers the letter changing issue, but now I can not get the new location to be indexed again, am I doing something wrong?
I did follow the steps suggested by Kirk Baker on another thread (Workflow - Moving folders within PMP catalog?« on: October 22, 2020, 03:46:17 AM »). Nothing seems to be happening, either that or it takes hours to re-index the catalog to the new drive path. The screenshot below shows the catalog been updated, but I do not know if this is the path been updated.
please help.
tks
Paulo

That should not be happening.  The drive letter isn't stored in the catalog when it stores paths.  I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic log.  In Photo Mechanic go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Windows Explorer window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Hi Paulo,

Thanks for the logfile.

We have an idea what might be causing Catalog to fail to automatically accommodate the changing drive letter. We're working on a possible fix.

Your logfile also indicated a separate, unrelated issue has occurred, causing a job relating to renaming or deleting items in a Catalog to become stuck.

We would like to look at your "cat_state.sq3" file, if you could post it here as an attachment.

The file can be found by pasting the following path into the address bar of a Windows Explorer window:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Camera Bits, Inc\Photo Mechanic\catalog\state

Thanks,

Bill

Paulo,

Thank you for the file.  We can extend your trial until after we address the problem.

Today I tried to add a new catalog for images on a new drive. this time I changed the letter to the drive before scanning and had this weird issue that might have something to do with the previous problem we are talking about so far. I scanned the 1 folder with subfolders to the new catalog (2017). When I try to browse the newly added folder it does not show but the 2016 that I have been trying to relocate is still showing, even though the catalog that it belongs to is not active. I am attaching a screenshot hoping it would help.

Thanks for all your effort so far.

Paulo,

At this point I suggest that you stop using the product until we can get you a build that fixes the underlying problem.

Do you have a network drive (NAS or other file sharing) active, or semi-active on your system?

Thanks,

-Kirk

No NAS, only external drives.

Hi Kirk,

do we have a new build yet? I have only 3 days left in my trial period.

Thanks

Yes, please see this post: http://forums.camerabits.com/index.php?topic=13663.0
And if it doesn't fix your issue, I can extend your trial period.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Do we have an update on this last built I tried (Photo Mechanic Plus (R5343) Interim build 11/11/2020), it did not work for me. I was going to start from scratch but my trial period has ended. I would really like to make this work as my main catalog system paired with Capture One. Thanks

Check your personal messages.  I have sent you an extended trial license key.

Be sure to try the 5376 build. http://forums.camerabits.com/index.php?topic=13686.0
