Feature Request: Server/Multiple Clients
« on: December 10, 2020, 11:28:49 AM »
Photo Mechanic Plus is really intriguing, but in my initial investigation, I noticed that multiple user support isn't available.

Ideally, I'd love to see a remote database that multiple clients can connect to. The options for asset management and organization at scale is pretty limited.  And I have 2-3 people ingesting into the media pool and working on organizing content. I was rather surprised that this wasn't part of the initial PM Plus platform.

Is there any plan for this in the future? or is the demand just too low?

Yes.  During the initial private beta phase we did have remote cataloging which was coming along nicely but in order to bring Photo Mechanic Plus to market we had to hide those features.  We do want to bring them back once we get a satisfactory single user experience completed.

We have no idea if demand is too low, but multi-user remote cataloging was an initial design goal and we mean to make it happen.

Thanks Kirk.  I have a number of client's I'd move this over to who are on aging fotoweb and other asset management solutions that are just far too overkill of a system for what they are trying to do.  They also have far too large of a catalog volume for any IP based system to work well with.  Sometimes you just can't beat an open and scroll over network storage solution. The problem, is searches.
