Reverse GEO tag not returning house Number in location.
« on: December 15, 2020, 07:03:33 AM »
Hi all
Not sure exactly when it started but when I turn on the Reverse geo tagging in the metadata template ( for event location) Im getting the Street name but not the address number.  I know there were reports of the opposite happening during the 6+ beta. But now Im just getting street names.   For some locations such as a restaurant Im getting the restaurant name instead of the actually street address.  Thats also causing a bit of an issue for me since for pictures taken at my sons restaurant PM6+ returning the name of the previous restaurant not his. ( over a year since the other restaurant closed).  My preference would be for the reverse look put to return the actually address instead of the Location name but that's a different issue.

Doesn't seem to matter if the GPS coordinates came from  the camera or via looking them  up  in PM6+.
I reproduce this by:
Selecting an image in the Navigator view.
Open the Metadata info panel and clear out the event location field if its filled in.
Save the changes ( with out the  "Globe" turned on)
From the Navigator view I'll right click on the image and select Set GPS Coordinates
Search for a location  "902 Yellowbank Road, Tom River NJ"
Click on Get GPS and then Accept
Click on Apply and close GPS dialog.
Right click on image and got to Metadata Info.
Turn on the GPS globe for the event location field.
Save the template.
When I look at the updated metadata only "Yellowbank Road" appears in the event location.
If I Search for my son's resturant  "BruDaddys Allentown PA"  the search finds the correct location and shows it on the map as "BruDaddys". but what gets saved in the event location field is "ROAR Social House" which is the resturant that was previously at that address. Something happen if I search for the actual address 732 Hamilton St. Allentown PA

Here's the setup of my mac and pm6   ( note I updated MACOS this morning but this issue has been around before that.

Thanks
Gary

Our reverse geocoding feature uses the OpenStreetMap's Nominatim database which we host on one of our servers.  It is an open source database that is updated by the user community.  Here is what it shows for your son's restaurant:

https://www.openstreetmap.org/search?query=40.60158N%2C%2075.47294W#map=19/40.60158/-75.47294

That location has not been updated to show the change in ownership.

I expect that the other issues you're having are similarly related.  The street name and location data is sub-par but the less specific information is much more accurate.

Thanks Kirk
Always good to know what's going on.
I looked at OpenStreetMaps and see that I can add / edit locations. Doesn't make sense for things like house numbers since I can update the images data pretty effortlessly using the metadata browser in PM6+. For my purposes using the location lookup from the GPS data is sufficient. Getting me to a location of Yellowbank Rd. vs 902 Yellowbank Rd. is fine. ( and again I can fix them in the browser if I need to)
Actually  correcting / normalizing the metadata in my images has been the primary thing I use PM6+ for .   Im amazed at just how often I misspell, or use inconsistent terms  for things like keywords and the like. Really enjoy the 6+ features.
But Im curious.
Once I update the location data on OpenStreetMaps how long before it gets propagated onto the database on your server.

Gary,

Once I update the location data on OpenStreetMaps how long before it gets propagated onto the database on your server.

Currently, it won't.  We need to fix an issue on our server to allow it to receive and process updates again.
