Multiple drives workflow
« on: March 20, 2021, 01:53:30 PM »
I'm sure like many of us, I have multiple drives.  New images are on an SSD for speed.  Older images on external spinning disks.  During the beta, I had a separate catalog for each.  Now that it is time to move files from the SSD onto the 'old photos' drive, I'm not sure how to proceed.

1) Is there any easy way to move photos from one catalog to another?
2) I should probably have just 1 catalog, shouldn't I?  And have files on multiple drives.  This would simplify moving files.

I'd love to hear suggestions about a better way to setup up my catalogs.  If I have to start from scratch, it's not the end of the world.

No.  And that's not something that we're planning to add.

A single catalog is easier to work with overall.

I'd pick the 'old photos' catalog and use Catalog Sync to pick up the files you moved to it (or after you move images to it.)  You could also add the images on the SSD that won't move for a while to that catalog. Then you could delete the other catalogs (from within the Catalog Management window.)

Thanks Kirk.  Makes sense.  I set up multiple catalogs during the beta, but it's looking like the tools to move files in the same catalog (as well as catalog speed) mean I should just keep them all in one catalog.

Okay, thanks! I'm working with several drives on a big project that needs lots of text and images, an analysis of the 2020 market for flats in Greece, and it'd have been great to be able to work with several drives at once, as the pictures are on a SSD and the rest on a HDD.
But then, I guess I can make some space on my SSD and store everything I need there!
