Filter by filename list
« on: April 27, 2021, 11:34:18 AM »
Is there a way filter a contact sheet by a comma separated list of filenames?

Workflow example.... I'll upload a batch of images from a contact to Pixieset.   A client can then go through and tag their favorites.  Pixieset then gives me a comma separated list of filenames that have been tagged.

It would be really handy to paste this list into a field on my contact sheet to the images that my client has tagged.  I could then easily color code or tag those images in PM+

Ron,

No, not directly.  But you can load a selection file and have the list of filenames be used to select the images.  If you have a text file with comma separated filenames, you could use a text editor to search for comma and replace it with a new-line character which will make the text file into a one name per-line text file that Edit->Load Selection... can use.

Then you could just set the color class/tag/rating on the selection.  Or if you really want to work with only the selection, you can use the View->Selected command to show only the selected images.

Kirk - this works.. but can I suggest an enhancement to the Load Selection process...

As an alternative to loading a list of filenames from a file, add a text box to the dialog that allows pasting in a comma separated list of filenames (without extensions).  This would make for a perfect integration with Pixieset favorites.

Thanks for considering.

Pixieset allows clients to tag favorite images in a gallery.  Then I get an email saying that someone has created a favorites list.  I log into pixieset and I'm able to collect this list of favorite images in one of two ways:  either a comma separated list of filenames which copied to my clipboard (for pasting into a search field in Lightroom),  or as a .CSV file.  See attached csv file for sample.

My workflow is this --
1) select certain images in PM (all Nikon RAW Files), then export as JPG for upload to Pixieset.
2) client tags faves in Pixieset.
3) pixieset gives me either a "Lightroom Copy List," comma separated list copy of filenames into my clipboard (with or without file extension of my choosing -- none is simplist), or a CSV file.   Per your advice from April, I go into the CSV file and clean it up to convert into a PM Load Selection file -- removing header, filename extension, and unneeded columns.

Then, my client's favorites are Selected in PM -- at which point I tag/color code/ or rate as appropriate.

If there is no extension and both the NEF and the JPG exist, which should be selected?

Kirk -- insightful questions like that are why you get paid the big bucks!

I don't really have an answer.   For me, I now only shoot RAW so it's not an issue.  But I have lots of folders with both RAWs and JPG files.  I have the RAW+Jpg mode on, so I only get one thumbnail -- and only one image to select of the pair.

So, for me, the answer to your question would be in the Launching Preferences.  Select the image (RAW or JPG) based on the edit setting.   Or perhaps better, a new pair of radio buttons on the Load Selection dialog that mirrors (and defaults from) the Launching Preference.
