viewing Raw + Jpg
« on: May 13, 2021, 07:08:19 AM »
When importing RAW (color) + JPG (monochrome) via PM+ both show up as black&white files. Is there a way for the RAW color to show as color and the B&W JPG to stay B&W? Not sure that I missed checking something in preferences or something else? When images are opened in Capture One they appeared as captured.

Photo Mechanic Plus (and the non-Plus version) use the embedded preview in your RAW file.  If it's in black and white, then it will appear that way in Photo Mechanic Plus.

If you can share the image, I can investigate.  Capture One is very likely rendering the image with their own interpretation of the RAW sensor data.

Hi Kirk,
Okay, I thought as much just wasn't sure.
Running Mac OS Big Sur 11.2.3 2019 Mac Book Pro 16"

In the preview, the images do show color for Raw and BW for Jpg.
Oh, one other thing when using zoom doesn’t seem to reach 100%. Or at least to me, it doesn’t look like 100% view.

Let me know what other information you may need.

Thank you for your help.

What is the best way to share image files?
Tried to attach two files and it did not work.

I was able to download the images and view them.  No web browser is going to show a DNG file though.

The black and white previews in the DNG files you shared are 6000x4000 pixels in size.  Were you expecting something larger?

Kirk,
No, that is the expected file size. Forgot my display size is 3000x2000 more or less so would account for the zoom bit. Thanks

Okay, the DNG files are Leica SL files and/or M240 files. Both file types show when imported show B&W only. And now that I think about so do my Fuji files.
Thanks.

If you shot the images in such a way that the DNG file produced has a B&W preview, then PM will show the image as B&W.
The camera is irrelevant.  The preview image in the RAW file is the image that is displayed in PM.

Kirk,
Thanks for sorting that out. Kinda suspected that would be the case.

For me, there is much to learn about the new PM +.

Thanks again for your help and support.
