Slideshow background color is always gray

The dialogue box for slideshow (Command L) does not allow changing the background color. It is always gray. Is there a way around this?

Have you tried changing the "Background color:" by clicking on the color swatch and using the color picker panel that appears?

That's very strange.  What OS are you running?

I just tried it on macOS Mojave and it works for me.
