Was just wondering what the best settings would be so that I could e-mail out proofs of photos I have taken that would be a good viewable quality on the computer.  But when they are printed, would not be usable have messed around with various settings, but since I am a new user figured somebody can give me some insight as to the best way to do this, thanks.

Shawn,

I would recommend using low-resolution files like in the 640x480 range, and I would put a transparent Watermark on them.
