How do I get the filmstrip to show up

In the preview mode, I see the icon to switch the position of the filmstrip. But, I can't see the filmstrip at all.

Are you in full screen mode? The filmstrip will be hidden if so.   Try the keyboard shortcut "r" to exit full screen mode.
