Is there a way to get PM to automatically FTP tagged images during the ingest process?

Also, when an FTP transmissiom fails, or stalls, I can never recover it in PM. I have to go back to the original image, and send again with a different name. Can the FTP part of PM be tweeked in this respect so that individual files can be stopped, cancelled, re-started, or even have a button that re-starts a transmission of a file but adds a number or letter at the end of the filename so that the server sees it as a new file? I'd also like to send another file whilst the current one is stalling. PM won't allow more than one file to be sent at a time, so when the FTP transmission fails, the whole queue fails if it can't be recovered.

No, there is no way to get that to happen automatically.

There is a button that you can use to retry, and you shouldn't need to quit the queue and start over.  That would be really frustrating.  I have attached below a screenshot of the FTP Progress window with the Resend button circled.  You can use the Resend button to restart a stalled queue and retransmit selected images.

While we are at it, the FTP as it is now works flawlessly for me. Ability to rearange the order and delete some items out of the queve are great. I have one wish though - if it could remember which photos were transferred successfuly (I know you can't tell simply from FTP protocol if the whole file made it trough well, but at least for most common errors that would suffice), and some way of tagging them in the contact sheet. I use colour classes for this, without problems, but for some future release, please consider adding such feature that FTP'd files would be tagged with some additional tag. Say a F with smile or something

It could be saved in the same way as custom arrangement is saved now in 4.5, because it would be I think counterproductive to save the FTP'd state in XMP.

I know some people wouldn't like another non-image file cluttering the photos folder, so please let's discuss it and leave for final consideration by you

Over at SportsShooter someone posted in a discussion about Automator, how you can have it watch a hot folder, run an action on incoming files (resize and add iptc), then send them with an ftp app...

Could it be possible to implement something like this in Photo Mechanic:

Select a folder to watch
As images arrive, add iptc stationery pad
Set a specific size
Set a specific compression
ftp to specific site
Save to a specific folder

Add a snapshot option to save different settings for different recipients.

All of this already exists in Photo Mechanic other than the automation, except the hot folder watching and the ability to automatically ftp a file (as per the OP's request).

Sure, it can be done with Automator, but Photo Mechanic is so user friendly and flexible, I'd rather use it. I suspect workflow like this will become more common for us individuals (the big agencies already have software designed for this) as the next generation DSLRs with better wifi integration start shipping (like the Canon Mark III). It could be very useful to chimp while shooting, sending the best shots on the fly to one's laptop in the pressbox or at the side of the field, which would then automatically apply the necessary action variables and resend.

Maybe something to consider?

Definitely.  A feature much like that is already on the wish list.

I would like to pipe in and agree with Frantisek, some way to mark the image or tag the images that have been transmitted would be great.
