4.5b2: selected tagged images can not be rated
« on: May 15, 2007, 07:18:39 PM »
In preferences, set "single key shortcut" to "Ratings"
In contact view, select a single image, press '2' to give it a rating of 2.  This works fine.

Now, select tagged images with CTRL-T, press '3' to give selected images a rating of 3.  This does not work. No ratings are applied.

Single key shortcuts only work when a single photo is selected.

Any chance this can be an option?

Take Microsoft products for example.  They use CTRL-B to add the 'bold' style to text.  You can use CTRL-B when a single character is selected or when multiple characters are selected. The same keyboard shortcut works in all situations.
It's consistent and easy to memorize.

Then don't use the single key shortcuts.  Use the Ctrl+Number or Alt+Number keys that work on selections.

They're consistent and easy to memorize.

We added the single key shortcuts that work on single photos for users who are on big-time deadlines and operate a laptop in the passenger seat of their car while they drive from one assignment to another!!!

Contrary to that, I think that single key shortcuts working only on single photos is a good idea. IMHO it's a good precaution against accidentally selecting all your files and doing e.g. a rating on them with a single key by mistake, which would replace all your previous ratings on them, something I _do not_ want on a deadline! Although, your mileage may vary :)
