OCR reading images
« on: February 01, 2023, 01:15:48 AM »
Am I right in thinking the latest version of macOS spotlight is seeing within images, it seems to be picking up some wording which is only in the image and also predominant colours and features like sky, it certainly isn't doing it consistently but I find it bizarre.

Yep, looks like Apple added this in Ventura: https://www.apple.com/macos/ventura/features/

Image search:
Spotlight uses information from images in Photos, Messages, Notes, and the Finder to enable searching by locations, scenes, or even things in the images, like text, a dog, or a car.

So I guess this is what you are seeing. I took a look at your account and it seems like you might own Photo Mechanic Plus. I'd probably recommend using Photo Mechanic Plus to search a catalog, as this would give you complete control over what images are indexed (and would only search the metadata that you chose to add to the images).
