Photo Mechanic Plus cannot search for images that are not in the catalog, that would, in and of itself, require creating a database.
We are adding a feature that should be in the next build of Photo Mechanic Plus that will allow you to open a Contact Sheet from the Navigator, and then have it select the items on the Contact Sheet that are not in a catalog.
