Interoperability of Colour (Color) Labels
« on: July 02, 2023, 12:15:34 AM »
It seems that despite some twenty five years, give or take, of digital imaging the industry has not decided on a standardised set of colours to use as labels.  If they had asked me I would of suggested the colours of the rainbow but they didn't ask :-(

I edit my images using DxO Photolab 6 and use the red colour label to indicate that an image should be deleted.  Using red works fine and setting the colour label set in DxO is also shown in Photo Mechanic.  Today I labeled an image orange in DxO and spent a little while wondering why it was not displayed in PM with an orange stripe.  The reason is simple: while PM reads that the label is orange it does not display an orange stripe with the image.

After some investigation I created the following which may be of use :

So for interoperability between PM - DxO and Lightroom only use Red, Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple labels.
