Import protected only failed - can I replay that Ingest?
« on: April 27, 2024, 04:35:22 PM »
I was shooting a rodeo last night and for whatever reason PM ingested every photo from the first session, so 1100 photos instead of about 150-200. Obviously a major PIA.

In the next Ingest I re-selected all of the options in the Ingest screen (re-selected Non-RAW, re-selected Locked Only) and it worked.

Is there a way I can 'replay' the initial Ingest? It would save me hours.

I just tried re-Ingesting the card I used last night, it just imported 1800 pics, not the 300-400 that I had selected in-camera. Very frustrating.

Anyone have any tips? It will save me hours to get the first Ingest fixed.

Deleting duplicate images in a folder should be an easy task in Photo Mechanic. If the duplicate files have the same name as the originals, only with a capitol A appended before the extension, then you can use the Find utility in the Edit menu. Just find filenames with an A. using the case sensitive option. Now all of the duplicates will be selected. You can quickly review the selected images to make sure they are duplicates and then use the Command-Delete shortcut to move the selected to the Trash.

If you use the Incremental Ingest option on a previously Ingested card, then running another increment Ingest will not copy the same files again.

An alternate option to copy just the new files from the memory card to a local folder would be to open a contact sheet on the folder on the memory card and another contact sheet on the destination folder. Sort the contact sheets by Filename or Capture time. Locate the last image in the destination folder from the previous Ingest or Copy.  Locate the image following that image in the Memory card folder. Click the first new image to select it, scroll to the end of the contact sheet and Shift-click the last image to range select the new images. Now use the Copy photos utility from the File menu or the Ingest selected option. The Copy photos can rename and apply the metadata template just like Ingest.

Best regards,

Thanks for the reply Bob.

I ended up going through all of the initial 1000-odd photos. It's rodeo, so I'm effectively only after 2-3 per run so it wasn't the *worst* thing I've done, but shuttling through photos in Lightroom (yes, I imported before culling in PM) was awful. Lockups and big frequent pauses. I didn't cull in PM because I wasn't aware of the issue before then.

That said, at about the 1000 photo mark it appeared that my Protect image option was being recognised.

Surely I didn't forget to protect images in-camera. Almost too scared to look now ... it's the most fundamental part of my workflow!

If you use the Incremental Ingest option on a previously Ingested card, then running another increment Ingest will not copy the same files again.

I was relying on this, but when I chose a new destination folder it imported the entire set again. I'm very confused, but the one glaring omission here is that I set up the laptop environment before I went to the event, except for one thing - run a test import, so I can check filenames etc, but also creates that 'Bookmark' from where the next download should start from.

Live and learn I guess.

Is this laptop computer the same computer that you've been using for all of your previous incremental ingests?

Yeah ... same laptop, same Ingest folder (+ Primary) ... same everything really.

I've got a more important gig this weekend for a media shoot (they supply the config file), so will test and do ingests prior to going to the ground.

If you have another failure, I'd like to see a screenshot of the Ingest dialog settings, and get your log file.

I need to bump my own thread ... it's happened again.

I am shooting a baseball carnival with an R3 + R6. The first ingest in the morning worked. I've then gone back out, shot more games and I can't import any photos.

The key options are;

- Non-raw
- Locked only

It is failing to pick up any new images.

This is catastrophic. The alternative is for me to go import directly into Lightroom, then having to sift through ALL of the photos to find ones I like, as opposed to the ones I protected in the camera. It's just not feasible, I would have shot over 6000 frames today across the 2 bodies.

I am earning a decent fee from this job, but if I can't get photos out, edited and sent in a reasonable amount of time, I am cooked.

Side note ... the R3 can deleted all non-protected photos very quickly, but a) I can't do that on the R6, and b) I can't guarantee I have the time between pitches to make sure of this.

I am incredibly frustrated. Some other factors;

- Using 2 new cards in the R3 (CF Express B + SD)
- Have plenty of HD space
- Have rebooted
- Currently running a MacOS update. I will scream if this is the cause (this makes no sense, but I am all out of ideas).

It's 10pm where I live now, I have probably 2-3 hours of editing and need to be back at the baseball park at 7am tomorrow.

I need to know if there's a config file of sorts I can delete that will make Photo Mechanic "forget" any previous Ingests and re-run it. I am desperate for help.

Hi Kirk ... I have generated a logfile and taken a screenshot. Where can I send these?

Update .... it doesn't appear to like the CF Express type B card. I formatted both so they are fresh once again.

I've managed to load the same photos from the SD Card that I also have in the R3.

Is this a known issue? Do you need anything from me? I'd love to raise a support incident so I don't have to come in here while I'm on this job.

This is still now working. I am into Day 3 of a 5 day baseball carnival and I am being slowed incredibly by this.

Today the SD Card isn't being read, the CF Exp. worked though. They were both reformatted this morning.

Can i please get a contact for a support case directly. This forum for support isn't good enough. I am shooting thousands of frames an hour and need about 10% and it's killing my workflow (and socials for baseball.com.au).

PLEASE HELP. I am so anxious and frustrated.
