I can't delete pictures with yellow dot
« on: May 03, 2024, 08:39:38 PM »
Hi there,

I'm experiencing an issue with my photo collection in Photo Mechanic 6+. Out of approximately 38,500 pictures, 51 images show a yellow dot (not in catalog). However, when I attempt to delete these pictures, I encounter an unexpected error message, as shown in the attached screenshot.

I've tried various troubleshooting steps, including safe mode start, moving pictures around and re-ingesting them, as well as opening and closing PM6+. Unfortunately, none of these actions have resolved the issue.

Do you have any suggestions or ideas on what I can do to successfully remove these pictures from my collection?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,
Luke

Hi.
Use the Edit menu, "Select Catalog Status", "Source File Unavailable".
Then Catalog menu, "Remove Selected Items" or the context menu "Remove selected Items"
After 5 years of absence I restarted the photography.

Hi Sven,

Thanks for your suggestions!
First I made a safety backup.
I then did what you suggested but, alas, the same message popped up.
I have 51 stubborn pictures in my collection that are impossible to delete or alter.
Very weird; Any other idea?
Cheers,

Luke

I think I worked it out.
Instead of deleting the pictures I selected "Remove from Catalog".
Now they're gone and I can't find any traces of them anymore.
They must have been some sort of "Ghost pictures".
They didn't show up on my hard drive but they must have been part of the catalog structure.
Anyway, all is sorted now.
Thanks for your time!

It probably shouldn't be offering the option to delete the item when it wouldn't be possible for it to delete it (the yellow dot indicates, after all, that the source file is unavailable). I've filed a bug report and we'll look into preventing this in the future, but for the moment the best option is to just choose "Remove" from the dialog that appears.

Thanks ahoward!
Yes, that's exactly what I did: I removed them instead of deleting them.
Case resolved. Thanks.

Just a note.. Pretty sure the dots for catalog status are.
Blank for Not in catalog,  ( and obviously physically available since you see it in the browse)
Yellow for In catalog but physical image file is not found ( or off-line)
Green for In catalog and physically available.
