Specific day and month, but of any year

there's a way to filter the PM catalog to show only the pictures taken on a specific day and month, but of any year?

Yes.  Create a custom search filter and enter:

capturetime.month = 3 and capturetime.day = 17

Replace 3 with the number of the month you're wanting, and 17 the day number of the month that you're wanting.

This is another case where amazing functionality is present and is in the manual (which is rather hard to use, as I went there to find this info) but it would probably take someone like Jeff Vogan to show a practical use for this.
