Is it possible to use the same catalogue between two Mac computers? The reason I ask is the default location for the "Default Catalog" is in the documents folder on the iCloud Drive that syncs with Apple computers. Or do I need to keep separate "Default Catalog" with the different computers. I understand possible issues with syncing files but the internet connection I have makes for almost instantaneous file syncs, or I'm with one computer and by the time I would get home and allow things to sync, the other computer would have that chance before I would access it.
Thanks for any thoughts!
The location where Photo Mechanic Plus creates a default Catalog is not intended to imply that the catalog should be shared through iCloud Drive. I believe the development of the catalog pre-dates the syncing of the Desktop and Documents folder that iCloud does, so at the time, the Documents folder was as good of a place as any to store it.
We don't recommend sharing a catalog between two computers. It is not designed to be used that way. Typically, to properly move a catalog from one computer to another, you want to choose to "Forget" the catalog on one and then "Locate Existing Catalog" on the computer you are moving to. Without doing this, errors can occur.
However, if you want each computer to have Catalogs that refer to the same images, then you can set up Catalog Sync to force check for any metadata updates that may have happened from another computer (or another piece of software). I can discuss this further if you are interested.
