Photo Mechanic 2025.1, build 7955
« on: January 03, 2025, 08:51:32 AM »
Hello Everyone,

We are pleased to announce an update to the Photo Mechanic All-in-One application for macOS and Windows.  This new build addresses a number of issues present in the 7907 build.

macOS:

Windows:

Version 2025.1 Build 7955 (January 2, 2025)

Both:
• Fixed: Perpetual licenses incorrectly being considered as not valid for All-in-one builds as of Jan 1, 2025.
• Fixed: Removing an element from a repeating field, like 'Persons Shown' from the popup menu hangs the application when a semi-colon is the chosen separator character.
• Fixed: Updated HEIF/DE265 libraries to allow decoding of iOS 18 HEIC images.
• Fixed: Missing suggestions in Auto Complete from text file when a metadata field had similar matches.
• Fixed: SmugMug uploader error with accented characters in filenames.
• Fixed: SmugMug supported formats note doesn't show until dialog is resized.
• Fixed: Change in repeating field separator character can cause multiple terms to be considered a single term.  A note has been added to the setting letting users know that changes to it require restarting Photo Mechanic.
• Fixed: XMP updates in iPhone HEIC photos modified by Apple Photos not being recognized by other apps.
• Added: Option to automatically reload Code Replacement files when they are updated.
• Added: {clipboardtext} and {cbtx} variables.  They evaluate into the contents of the system clipboard if it contains text (up to 2000 characters), or an empty string if no text exists in the clipboard.  Thanks to Mike Price of Fairfield Photography for the idea.
• Added: {parentfolder} variable for retrieving the name parent of the image's folder.
• Added: Word(s) extraction to Variable Substring Extraction.  Use {var:index, count:w} to extract count words starting at index word.  Words will be separated by comma separators unless 'w' is followed by an exclamation point (!) as in 'w!', in which case words will be separated by spaces only.  If index or count are out of range, only the in-range words will be returned.  You can additionally follow the word command by conversions and translation if desired.  Thanks to user ‘Ulrik’ on the Camera Bits forum for the idea.
• Added: Parser extraction to Variable Substring Extraction. Use {var:p,delimiter,n} to parse terms separated by ‘delimiter’, and evaluate to the n-th field.  If either colons (:), commas (,) or backslashes (\) are your delimiter character, you need to escape them with backslash (\).  The delimiter character must be a simple ASCII character. If there is no n-th field, an empty string is returned.  You can follow the parser command with conversions and translation if desired.
• Added: Sorted Photosets in the Flickr upload template.

macOS:
• Fixed: Restoring last session on startup now restores Favorites and Navigator sort popup menu correctly, even when default preferences differ.
• Fixed: 'E' shortcut does not work in Preview window unless path is set to an editing application. (When using the Finder to open.)
• Added: Snapshots show color swatches when a snapshot file has been given a color in the Finder.  Thanks to user ‘Ulrik’ on the Camera Bits forum for the idea.

Windows:
• Fixed: Opening multiple files with CaptureOne now causes CaptureOne to open all of the files instead of just one.
• Fixed: Drag and drop stability improvements.
• Fixed: Rendering RAWs with Adobe DNG Converter can cause Ingest to be interrupted.

On Windows, you may see a window like the following appear when you try to install:

This is due to our recently updated code signing certificate.  As long as you see Camera Bits, Inc. as the publisher, you can trust the installer and choose "Run anyway".  In time, as our certificate gains trust by Microsoft Defender, these warnings will cease to occur.
