Spell Check/Grammarly
« on: March 02, 2025, 10:29:47 AM »
I've been using the app grammarly for a while now, and then all of a sudden, it stopped appearing in the dialog boxes. It still works in all my other apps, but I've tried both my macbook and my iMac and its not detecting any spelling errors. Has anyone else been using this or have any issues?

I have not had any other reports of this but I don't know how many people use both Photo Mechanic and Grammarly. It might be helpful to include your version of Photo Mechanic, MacOS, and Grammarly in case the particular combination of versions you are using is a factor.

Hi there,

I'm having the same issue. Spell check or autocorrect don't work, and neither does Grammarly, which worked perfectly. I uninstalled and reinstalled PhotoMechanic, and it's still not working. Do you know how to fix this issue? Another colleague has the same problem.

Was there a recent update to Grammarly?

What macOS are you running?  And what version/build of Photo Mechanic are you running, fotoray?

I don't know if there is/was a Grammarly update. We reinstalled this morning, hoping to fix the issue, but we didn't do anything.

I'm on Mac  OS 12.6.1, PM Version 6.

I reinstalled PM, too. I was hoping to get the spell check working as I type captions, but it's not working, etc. I double-checked the IPTC preferences, and it is not working.

PM6 hasn't been updated since August 14th 2024, so if you're experiencing a new issue, I suspect it is in Grammarly.  PM doesn't know anything about Grammarly (does nothing to cooperate with it or prevent it in any way).

Have any of you contacted the folks who make Grammarly to see if they have changed anything recently?

I've also run into this same issue. Even when you right-click in any of the dialog boxes, go down to spell check -> Spelling & Grammar none of the spelling options change when clicked.

For everyone, this is Grammarly's response from their support as well. I did note that I am using a Mac though

Thank you for waiting this out!

I can confirm that Grammarly for Windows doesn't currently support Photomechanic. I have reported this issue to our engineering team. The team has identified it as a bug, and while there’s no immediate solution, you can rest assured that our engineers plan to fix it in the future.

Although there’s no quick resolution now, we will keep gathering information about the issue and prioritizing it accordingly.

We don't think it's right to set any expectations at this moment. That said, please feel free to reach out regarding this issue again at any time.

I'm following up on this because Grammarly does work in part of the app. It corrected when I was adding keywords to the keyword panel, but not on the IPTC page there are no updates in any spell check

I have opened a support ticket with Grammarly informing them of what we think they need to fix. But again, we really encourage anyone experiencing this issue to contact Grammarly support. We have no direct line of communication with anyone at Grammarly, and if they only hear about this issue from one person, who knows if they will even bother escalating it up to their engineering team to work on it. The more they hear about it from their actual users, the more they might be inclined to fix it.
