Live Ingest not reflecting when Metadata Template changes?
« on: March 07, 2025, 11:20:11 AM »
Photo Mechanic Version 6.0, build 7212 (90865b3). MacOS 15.2

I'm trying to incorporate Live Ingest into my workflow. I have it continuously monitoring a folder of processed JPEG exports coming out of Adobe Camera RAW, specifically in order to apply a new metadata template.

1) In the Live Ingest dialog box, I have the "Apply Metadata Template" box checked.
2) I start my ingest session. The first ingest works fine, and the metadata template gets correctly applied.
3) Sometimes I need to change the metadata template between batches of photos, when Live Ingest isn't actively processing files. But I can't get this new template to apply to my live ingest -- unless I manually stop my live ingest session and start a new one.

In short, it seems like a single Live Ingest session can only utilize a single metadata template. If you wish to change the metadata template, you must stop the Live Ingest session and start a new one.

Is this by design, or am I overlooking something?

The LiveIngest needs to be stopped before changing settings.

It would be nice if this weren't this way!

Live Ingest already has the "wait X seconds" feature for stability purposes. I don't see why a similar feature couldn't also apply to other parts of the Live Ingest dialog box, specifically when Live Ingest isn't actively processing files. For example, "if >30 seconds since the last live ingest, then yes, allow user to modify live ingest settings. If <30 seconds, disallow user to modify settings."

Perhaps another way of doing it would be to add a dialog box "When files finish copying, end live ingest session and start new one"
