Search Contact Sheet issue
« on: March 10, 2025, 04:11:02 PM »
Hello everyone,

I noticed that if I'm writing an IPTC metadata on a photo from the Search Contact Sheet the page will refresh and what I wrote disappears. If I'm doing the same thing on a photo opened in a normal Contact Sheet I don't have this issue.

"what I wrote disappears"

Where did you write something?  In the Metadata (IPTC) Info dialog?  Somewhere else?

Can you list a set of steps that reproduces the problem?

Thanks,

For example I searched in the Catalog "pope". Then I wrote some metadata (description, keywords) in the IPTC panel, or I copied all the metadata from a photo to another photo. Then, when I navigate through other Contact Sheets or when I switch to another app and then I return to PM+ the Search Contact Sheet (in this case "pope") will refresh and all the changed I did to the IPTC disappears.

And you're clicking OK or using Save & -> before you exit the Metadata (IPTC) Info dialog before you do anything else?  And when this happens, if you open the Metadata (IPTC) Info dialog from the Search results Contact Sheet then you see that the metadata changes are gone?

I'm using Save & -> before to exit the Metadata (IPTC) Info dialog. After that "auto refresh" (I can see all the previews in the Search Contact Sheet disappearing and appearing again after a second) all the metadata changes disappear.

And you're going into the Metadata (IPTC) Info dialog to check on the metadata?  Or you're seeing the metadata disappear somewhere else?

I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic Plus log.  In Photo Mechanic Plus go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Finder window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Hello Kirk,

yes, I'm going into the Metadata (IPTC) Info dialog to check on the metadata.

Unfortunately I'm unable to attache the zip file... Can I share a wetransfer link?

Hello Kirk,

I'm sorry for the delay but in these days I'm very busy as I'm living and working as a photojournalist in an area where are happening some earthquakes.

Here's the link to download my zipped PM log file: https://we.tl/t-DecIb7KvPF

Cheers,
eliano

Thanks.  You log file is over 60k lines long.  Do you remember what day you experienced the problem, and possibly a range of time on that day?  This will help me narrow down what part of the log I should concentrate on.

Or perhaps just the name of a few files that you know you edited metadata on that exhibited the problem.

Also: Please go into the Photo Mechanic Cache folder (where you found the zip file) and delete the dyn.1.log file, it is nearly 29GB in size.

Thanks,

-Kirk

Hello Kirk,

for sure when I opened this thread (March 10, 2025, 04:11:02 PM).

(Thank you for the suggestion to delete the din.1.log file!)

Best,
