Personality in Photo Mechanic and Capture One not in sync
« on: March 14, 2025, 07:03:18 PM »
Hi, I know Getty’s "Personality" field its no IPTC standard, but it's included in Photo Mechanic and Capture One.
Unfortunately the "Personality" info I have applied in Photo Mechanic is not showing up in Capture One and vice versa the applied "Personality" info from Capture One in Photo Mechanic.

Why? Doesn't all meta data will by synced via XMP, even it’s not standard?

Unknown.  Please share the XMP from CaptureOne so I can investigate.  Please put something obvious in the field like "Personality C1" in it.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your XMP file.

Thanks,

-Kirk

This is how it looks in Capture One. Compared to Capture One, I think it would be better if I could change the Personality field in Photo Mechanic to more than one row, would be better. Like in Person shown. There is free space anyway.

It looks like Capture One is not recording this metadata according to Getty's spec. I've attached a screenshot of what the metadata looks like when added by Photo Mechanic compared to the file that you sent. You'll see that Capture One is adding this metadata as a single string, separated by semi-colons, where as Photo Mechanic adds the metadata as a list of individual items in a "bag" data type. Our implementation of this was based on files that we received from Getty. You'll also see that a similar issue was brought up to Exiftool a few years ago, and Phil Harvey published an update to Exiftool in accordance with a sample file that a user sent him to make Exiftool also use the bag data type: https://exiftool.org/forum/index.php?topic=9706.0

When you upload images to Getty, does it read the Personality metadata regardless of which application wrote it?

Hi, thanks a lot for your research.
To be honest, I'm not working with Getty (yet). I only use this free field because it appears in PM and C1 to make some extra notes for Instagram profiles of persons i photographed. I don't really want to use any other free IPTC fields, but maybe this would be the workaround. The IPTC Subject Code is properely synced between PM and C1. Anyway, I will ask Capture One why they haven’t implemented this Getty field properely.
