How to specify location of gstreamer with PM6 all-in-one ??
« on: March 21, 2025, 09:36:28 AM »
Hi,
The question is in the subject ...
The possibility to specify the directory of gstreamer has disappeared from the form Preferences/Files .... (PM6 build 7955)
I have uninstalled PM6-7955 and reinstall it. Didn't ask for the gstreamer directory
Note: PM6 'old' (build 7269) still works perfectly with gstreamer on my PC.
Thanks for any advice
Frederic

GStreamer is no longer necessary in the new version of Photo Mechanic. Are you having issues with getting thumbnails/previews for video files?

Thanks for your answer
Yes, I have problems: on what seems random files (.mov, .MP4 ..) I have the red message on black background 'File Error Contact Sheet Rescan Needed'. Still there after rescan.
These files are OK when I use the 'old' PM6
I am using Windows 11, everything updated
Regards

I forgot to mention that the problem occurs only on a few files (around 5-10%)

And I have checked if it is possible to download these files ... and  ... yes I can download them and now they are displayed  properly in PM6 ..

I am sorry to say that (I have been using PM for many many years), but I don't understand why have just paid around 180$ to upgrade to the all-in-one version of PM6+ and:
I have new problems
No new functionalities
The bugs of the 'old' version are still there, specifically the necessity to display all items in a contact sheet before using functions as 'find and replace' or drag the files to another application. Very annoying when working with large datasets.

Anyhow thank you for your assistance

Will the files play with Windows Media Player?  If not, does WMP tell you about a missing codec?  If so, installing that codec will likely fix the issue with Photo Mechanic as well.
